Community Organiser | Position Description

 

Job Purpose 

We are looking for a Community Organizer to plan and organize initiatives to promote community engagement in the federal electorate of Monash. 

Our Community Organizer will be responsible for identifying issues that relate to the V4M values, be they locally based or with a national focus, and find effective ways to engage with and mobilise the community to share their views and get involved.

 

Organisation Profile 

Voices for Monash (V4M) is a community organisation of concerned citizens with no formal affiliation with any political party or other organisation. It was established in 2021 and identified and endorsed a candidate to represent the values and pillars of the group in the 2022 federal election.

We want to do politics differently. We want to invigorate and restore trust in democracy and ensure our elected representatives represent the values and concerns of the people, rather than a political party.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Develop and implement community outreach and engagement strategies.
  • Support and manage volunteers and develop activities they can participate in that furthers the aims of the group.
  • Organise and facilitate meetings, Kitchen Table Conversations, events and workshops to promote dialogue and collaboration.
  • Prepare regular digital communications (email newsletters and social media posts) that promote issues relevant to the electorate, the community independents movement, and encourage people to get involved.
  • Identify and connect with community and business leaders that support V4M aims to invite their endorsement of and participation in the group’s activities.
  • Establish relationships with sector partners - Huddle, Community Independents Project, and Climate200.
  • Manage expenditure within specified budgets.
  • Work from and manage the V4M Campaign Hub.

 

Qualifications & Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in community organising, politics, or related field
  • Experience in community organising or related field
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively and lead diverse groups of people
  • Strong organisational and project management skills
  • A high level of initiative and self-motivation
  • Working knowledge of social media and other online communication tools, such as Dropbox, Google Workspace, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Slack, Circle, Signal
  • Hold and maintain a Driver’s License

 

Terms of Employment

Basis of Engagement:

Contractor (payment on invoice)

 

Hours:

15 hours per week

Days of work:

Can be negotiated

Pay Rate:

$40.50 / hour

Commences:

asap

Duration:

4 months (may be extended if additional funding becomes available)

Located:

Campaign Hub TBD - applicant needs to travel within Monash
